The Role of Cryogenic Treatment Equipment in Mold Processing
Process: The mold is cooled to -120°C to -190°C, held at this temperature according to the process specifications, then slowly brought back to room temperature. This is a post-heat treatment process.
Key Benefits:
1. Enhanced Hardness and Wear Resistance
By transforming residual austenite within the mold into martensite, surface hardness increases and wear resistance improves. Stamping and injection molds become less prone to scratching or material chipping.
2. Dimensional Stability and Reduced Deformation
Internal residual stresses are relieved, minimizing expansion or contraction during mass production. This ensures consistent dimensional accuracy and reduces scrap rates.
3. Extended Mold Service Life
Fatigue resistance is improved, reducing risks of chipping, cracking, or spalling. Overall mold life can be extended by 20% to 60%, significantly lowering costs associated with frequent mold replacement.
4. Improved Residual Stress Management and Lower Crack Risk
After quenching, internal stresses remain in the mold. Cryogenic treatment helps release some of these stresses, making the mold less likely to suddenly crack during operation.
